North East businessman Jeremy Middleton has been named by the Conservatives as candidate to fight the forthcoming Parliamentary by-election in Hartlepool.
Mr Middleton, who is 43 and married with three children, will contest the Commons seat being vacated by former Labour Cabinet minister Peter Mandelson, who is quitting Westminster politics to become EU trade commissioner in Brussels.
A director of HomeServe plc, an assistance company he co-founded in Newcastle in 1992, Mr Middleton stood as Conservative candidate for Newcastle East and Wallsend in the 1997 general election, and for the North East in the recent elections to the European Parliament.
